The Apple of His Eye
Deuteronomy 32:10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye.
Psalms 17:8 Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
Proverbs 7:2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
Zechariah 2:8 For thus saith YHWH of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
This is one of the most beautiful statements in the scriptures. The spelling of apple in the Hebrew is Chet – Waw – Peh – Tet. Please remember that the Hebrew reads from right to left. So, the actual spelling in the Hebrew is Tet - Peh – Waw –Chet.
Tet: The snake in the basket...the letter of decision.
Peh: A mouth, speak, to vocalize, breath, speech, to bring into reality through words, commandment, appointment
Waw: A hook or nail, joining together, making secure, Becoming bound (Nailed to)
Chet: A fence, an inner room
The Hebrew word for apple is not what we would typically think of in the English. It takes on a much greater meaning. The word apple in the Hebrew is the following.
H380 - אישׁון - The little man of the eye; the pupil or ball; hence the middle (of night): - apple [of the eye], black, obscure.
It also has this definition…
H892 – בּבה - Feminine active participle of an unused root meaning to hollow out; something hollowed (as a gate), that is, the pupil of the eye: - apple [of the eye].
We should not see ourselves any less then how YHWH sees us. Don’t get me wrong as sinners we need to see our need for a savior but we need to realize that even as sinners we are so important to YHWH that he calls us the apple, or the pupil, of his eye.
Remember what is says in 2 Peter 3:9…
2 Peter 3:9 - YHWH is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
