Doreen Virtue ( formerly involved heavily in the occult ) : I used to believe that everyone went to heaven because New Age and New Thought deny hell, sin, the devil, and the need for repentance. The Gospel seemed so “negative,” and I was brainwashed by new age and new thought teachings that gave me a phobic fear that negativity would attract negative results. I didn’t realize then that the Gospel means good news, because Jesus offered us THE way to Heaven. New Age near-death experience stories were treated as authoritative and they told us we didn’t need salvation or the Gospel. This comforted our rebellion and fed our pride, since we wanted a spiritual system where we stayed in control and never faced judgment. Yet the practices I was involved in, including divination, idolatry, mediumship, and interpreting signs, were an open rejection of the Gospel (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Scripture says that idolaters, sorcerers, the sexually immoral, and all liars will be in the lake of fire which is the second death (Revelation 21:8). Those sins are only forgiven when there’s repentance and faith in Christ. God’s Word says that those who persist in sin without repentance will face judgment. I was hellbound and didn’t know it. It would’ve been too late for me if I’d died and then realized that New Age and New Thought are empty sugar-coated lies from the devil (and yes, the devil is very real). By then, I would’ve been trapped in eternal torment forever. The New Age and New Thought seem positive, loving, kind, compassionate, and effective. Yet as someone who spent 59 years as an insider in those systems, I have no agenda except to sound the alarm for those who have ears to hear. If Jesus is calling you, run to Him without hesitation. Jesus is worth everything that you think you’re going to lose by following him. I’ve lost friends, family, finances, and I get slandered daily for being a follower of Jesus. But I wouldn’t trade Him for anything in the world. I’m praying for everyone who was affected by my former New Age teachings. I didn’t know at the time that I was deceived. May God open their eyes and prepare their heart for the Gospel. Jesus came to earth as fully God and fully man; He lived the righteous life we can’t live, and He willingly died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for sinners. He physically rose on the third day, defeating death and offering eternal life to all who repent and believe in Him (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). You aren’t saved by good works or spiritual rituals or self-effort. You’re saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you’re weary, lost, or searching for truth, have faith in Christ. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).
