'Christ sits like a king on a throne, holding the Gospel open to these words: “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning.” All around, choirs of angels in profound fear. Michael stands in the middle, saying on a scroll: “Let our bearing be full of awe, let us worship here the King our God.” Below, mountains; in the middle of them, a great opening, above which is written this inscription, “Tartarus.” Lucifer and all his army fall from heaven. At the very top, they appear very beautiful; below, they become angels of darkness; lower still, they appear darker and blacker; lower still, they are half angels and half demons; finally, they become entirely black and hideous demons. At the very bottom, beneath all the others, in the middle of the abyss, the devil Lucifer, the blackest and most dreadful of all, lies on his stomach, looking upwards.' (FALL OF LUCIFER)
