A Close Relationship
If you really want to know Jesus as your “Best Friend,” then you must spend time with Him. You won’t automatically become close by talking to Him once in a while when you need something. All relationships require communication to survive. If you only talk to someone now and then, you will not be relevant in their life. You won’t be the first person they think of when times get tough or when there is some amazing news to share, and the reason is this - you are not close! Only friends who spend time together, communicate, and share details of their lives will be close friends, and so it is with God. Our Heavenly Father is not looking for a casual friendship with you - but truly desires a close relationship! The Bible makes it very clear what will happen if you don’t maintain a close friendship with God. John 15:6 says, “Anyone who does not ‘remain in me’ is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.” That’s a very powerful verse about the importance of staying close to Jesus! He loves you more than you could possibly imagine, so don’t ignore God’s voice calling out to you. Instead, give Him your heart, share every aspect of your life, spend time in prayer and study of His Holy Word and you’ll soon develop a close relationship with Him. Why not start today? Text: James 4:8, Jeremiah 29:13, Psalm 119:10, Psalm 73:28, Hebrews 10:22
