Prayer Priorities
Sometimes when people pray, they do so in the same manner as if they were asking their wealthy, generous uncle. They plead for a better job, more money, a fancy car, or some exotic vacation. Or they pray, demanding healing or some other miracle on their behalf. But that’s not how God wants you to pray; He wants you to make your requests known to Him with an unselfish heart. And when you put others’ needs ahead of your own, you’ll experience the power of prayer such as King Solomon did. You might remember his famous prayer for wisdom in 2 Chronicles 1:11-12, “Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.” Wow! That is pretty good evidence of how God feels about unselfish prayers! Set prayer priorities, putting the needs of others ahead of your own, and it won’t be long before you’ll find God’s will becomes your will too. Text: Philippians 2:4-5, John 5:30, 1 Peter 4:10
