“I Do Not Know You”

There will come a day when the door is gently but firmly closed.

Not slammed.
Not forced.
Just closed after long years of waiting.

Outside the door stand many voices. They sound familiar. They speak the language of faith. They call Him “Lord, Lord.” They remind Him of prayers said, churches attended, services rendered.

But from inside, the voice they longed to hear answers with words that cut deeper than silence:

“I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.”
— Matthew 7:23

These words were not spoken to unbelievers who never knew God.
They were spoken to churchgoers.
To those who knew His name, but not His heart.
They were holy on Sundays, lifting hands in worship, yet from Monday to Saturday they lived as if God did not see.

“This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.”
— Matthew 15:8

They served in ministries, spoke about righteousness, corrected others loudly
yet in secret they embraced sin, trusting endlessly in mercy without repentance.

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
— Galatians 6:7

Some judged quickly, mocked the fallen, and felt secure in their own goodness.

“Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own?”
— Matthew 7:3

Others prayed often, sat faithfully in church pews, but chose comfort over obedience.

The commandments were known but ignored.

“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
— John 14:15

And there were those who served not for God’s glory, but for recognition, power, and gain using His holy name for personal reward.

“Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.”
— Matthew 6:2

When the door finally closed, it was not because God was cruel.
It was because He had been patient for so long.

“The Lord is patient with you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
— 2 Peter 3:9

This story is not written to condemn but to wake us up.

To remind us that faith is not a performance.
Holiness is not seasonal.
And discipleship is not part-time.

“Be holy, for I am holy.”
— 1 Peter 1:16

May these words move us to serve God wholeheartedly, to live holy not only on Sundays, but every day,
to obey His commandments,
to walk humbly,
and to make sure that when we stand before Him…

He will say,

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
— Matthew 25:21
