Run From Temptation.

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12
She knew in her heart it wasn’t a good idea. It had always been a struggle; and, as far as she could tell, it would always be. Dismissing all the “red flags” in her head, she went ahead and bought the bag of her favorite candies—not the normal, individual size. Oh, no. She bought the bag that was intended to feed a whole group! I’ll just have a few, they will look so pretty in my candy dish, she told herself.
Little by little, throughout the day, she took one—.just one—as she walked past them. Within a short amount of time, the dish was empty. Then shame and condemnation overwhelmed her. How could I have done this—again? she thought.
Temptations, of one sort or another, haunt each of us. No one is safe. They come in many shapes and sizes. And whether it’s a visible addiction like gluttony, drugs, and tobacco, or a not-so-obvious one like pride, self-sufficiency, or jealousy, each of us can be easily tempted. The Bible tells us in James 1:14–15 that we are tempted when we are drawn away by our own desires and enticed. James goes on to say that when we give in to our desire, it becomes sin. And in time, sin always brings death.
That is why it’s imperative that we stay in close relationship with Jesus on a day-by-day, hour-by-hour, and minute-by-minute basis. We must meditate on His Word; be in constant communication with Him; and heed the advice of any godly counsel He sends our way! Temptations will always be there, but if we are Christ’s followers, the Holy Spirit will be there, too. Just as the woman knew in her heart it wasn’t a good idea, we too must learn to walk away at that point. When we get that urge to succumb to a physical temptation or notice that first sign of an inward struggle in our soul, we must immediately call upon the Holy Spirit to give us strength. We must not tempt Him, but avoid the situation at all costs. Our very life may be on the line.
“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1 Corinthians 10:12–13.
