BREAK A LEG:
Recently, I broke my leg. I wasn’t ill or unwell, but suddenly, I was forced to stop, to be still, and to step out of the flow of daily life. As I faced this sudden pause, I realised the importance of surrender and accepting help, learning that even in forced stillness, valuable lessons can emerge. In that pause, God began to speak.
I fell, both in body and spirit. It was humbling in ways I hadn’t expected. Suddenly, I couldn’t carry or do everything myself, and I had to let go. This meant allowing my family and friends to support me, to lean on their strength when my own was gone. For someone who has always prided themselves on independence, this was a hard lesson in surrender. Just when I thought I had given everything over to God, He gently showed there was still more to release. Letting go is never as simple as we imagine; we think we’ve laid it all down, but there are always hidden pockets of the heart, places we didn’t even realise we were holding onto. In surrender, we discover the hidden strength in reliance.
This process of letting go doesn’t always appear as we imagine. It isn’t a tidy formula or a simple choice. Some pain is best left at the feet of Grace, where God invites us to rest in His peace without needing explanations. We don’t have to know what the next step is or how the future will unfold, or whether we’re strong enough for what lies ahead. Sometimes, the only task is to be present, to do nothing but rest with your leg propped up, patiently allowing healing to slowly unfold, accepting is, too, part of the journey.
As this journey unfolds, there is a quiet beauty in accepting yourself, just as you are, in the middle of your weakness and limitations. Surrendering to peace while chaos swirls around you. Choosing to close your eyes and ears to the endless demands and expectations, and simply letting go.
In the stillness, everything pauses.
During these still moments, allowing others to help, even if it isn’t done your way, or even if it’s barely done at all, becomes an act of trust. Lying still, learning to be at peace, trusting that one day you will rise and walk in strength again. The proverbial “break a leg” comes to mind—remember, the show must go on!
Healing is a slow unfolding that requires patience and surrender. We often believe we’re ready to move forward before we truly are, eager to return to life as it was. However, sometimes stepping out as we always have is simply not possible. In those moments, we are forced to adjust, to shift, and to discover new strength in places we never knew existed. While it hurts and feels uncomfortable, sometimes you have to keep going despite the discomfort and pain. Knowing God is at work, holding us steadfast in His promises. Through the struggle, His faithfulness remains, reminding us that even in slow seasons, His plans are for our good. Thus, the journey continues with His guidance and assurance.
There’s a reason the Lord allowed those difficult years before Joseph was reunited with his brothers. During this time, Joseph experienced a profound transformation, from a favoured son sold into slavery to a trusted leader in Egypt. Through trials, he learned resilience and faith, which prepared him for his ultimate reconciliation with his family. God used Joseph’s waiting to build character, moulded his trust and deepened his reliance, and revealed heavenly strategy that saved many from famine.
The show has to go on and is sometimes not in the way we expect or planned. The lessons are found in stillness, waiting, being at peace, and surrender
