Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.
I was able to get off to a strong start yesterday with the new book. Two thousand words before bed and the first chapter complete. I knew that as soon as I started typing, the words would flow like a babbling brook. I do like to babble, but name ain’t brook. Haha. I am not sure exactly where the story is heading, but I do know that I have the excitement that I had while writing Chasm, so …
I had been worried about the beginning. I had nothing rattling around to help me put pen to paper or finger to keyboard. There were no thoughts. No ideas. Just a premise to the story. Now that I am working the supervisor role at work, I only take an hour lunch instead of two. The two-hour lunches really worked for my writing; the one-hour lunch is better for just taking a time out. However, He prompted me to pack up my laptop, take it to work and set it up where I take my lunch. As I sat there, at lunch, I was less interested in my food and more interested in my story. Floods of ideas for starters filled my head, and I began to write. Nearly 800 words in less than an hour. A very strong start.
After dinner and quality time with my husband, I set my computer back up on my desk and went through the mail. I did a couple of household items, then began to write. The chapter was unfolding almost faster than I could type it. As I am writing this paper, my mind is bouncing back and forth from this paper to the story. I have deleted a few starter sentences from my mind that belong there and not here. My brain is in a battle for lots and lots of words. It is kind of scary.
So, what does any of this have to do with our walk with Jesus? I am so glad you asked. It is an exceptionally good question. The answer: God may give you the plan, the overall synopsis of what he wants far in advance of the actual execution. When it is time for you to act, then the details unfold and in my case … quickly.
When I wrote The Chasm, I had no idea that a series was about to unfold. When the story closed out, he immediately gave me Gentle Breeze, right after The Chasm went to publishing. I actually asked him why we did not just add the two together. I am pretty sure he giggled at me. The same happened with Gentle Breeze. After I sent it to the publisher, Redemption was born. Before Redemption was completed, He told me there would be 4th book. By now, I was getting used to it. However, I was fairly certain that Unconditional Love was the end of the series. Until I had a dream that there needed to be a 5th book. A book that ties the original cast from The Chasm more intrinsically. Thus, the 5th book (unknown title for now) is born. He gave me ideas and thoughts to use, but it was not until yesterday that He pulled the trigger on the starting pistol.
I have known for a couple of weeks that a new book was coming, the idea of it overall, but no idea of how I was going to execute this plan. God gave me a start yesterday when He was ready for me to take off. His timing is perfect.
Many times, we get these thoughts; we know they are His ideas, we are excited and eager to start, but there is no starting point. We have a direction, but no trigger to begin. We get frustrated because we do all these things to get going, but everything falls through. Then we begin to wonder if we really heard Him in the first place. The enemy moves in and starts to fill our heads with dread and doom, telling us how we have missed the mark, when in fact, the mark has not even been set yet.
If you have been given a task to do for the Father, be patient in His timing. He may just be giving you the idea so that you can process enough to be prepared and ready. It may not be the time to execute, but he knows that you need to be able to process and lay out in your mind the mere idea of having this project in your hands. Then, when the time is right, He will unleash the details, and you will be able to run like a gazelle. Don’t rush it; let God prepare you, and your flight will soar.
Be blessed.
