Forgiveness With a Higher View
Scripture
“But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.”
Genesis 45:5 (NKJV)
God Sent Me
This verse marks the climax of one of the most moving stories of forgiveness in the Bible. Joseph has finally revealed himself to the brothers who betrayed him, sold him into slavery, and shattered his life. And what does he say?
“Don’t be angry with yourselves… God sent me.”
Joseph had every earthly reason to retaliate—but instead, he responded with mercy and eternal perspective. He didn’t downplay their sin, but he refused to let it define the story.
Why? Because he saw God’s hand in it all.
Joseph's words remind us:
God can use even the worst situations for a greater purpose.
Forgiveness isn’t about forgetting—it’s about releasing and trusting God’s plan.
When we surrender our pain to God, He rewrites the narrative with redemption.
This is a picture of Christlike forgiveness—and it challenges us to let go of resentment and look up to God's purpose.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I holding on to pain that God is asking me to surrender for a greater purpose?
2. Do I believe that God can use even betrayal or loss to fulfill His plan in my life?
3. Is there someone I need to forgive with a heavenly perspective today?
Prayer
Father God, thank You that nothing in my life is wasted—not even the pain. Teach me to see my story through the lens of Your purpose. Help me to forgive like Joseph, knowing that You are always working behind the scenes to bring life, hope, and healing. Give me the strength to let go and trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
