The God Who Is “I AM”
Scripture
“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.’”
Exodus 3:14 (NKJV)
The God Who Is Always Present
When God called Moses to deliver Israel from Egypt, Moses asked, “What shall I say to them if they ask who sent me?” God responded with one of the most profound revelations in all of Scripture: “I AM WHO I AM.”
This declaration reveals God’s eternal, unchanging, and self-existent nature. He is not defined by time, circumstance, or human limitation. He simply is—the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
For Israel, this meant their God was not like the powerless idols of Egypt. He was the eternal One who exists without beginning or end, and who would be present with them in every moment of their deliverance.
For us today, “I AM” reminds us that:
God is sufficient for every need.
God is unchanging in a changing world.
God is present in every season of our lives.
Reflection Questions
1. What does it mean to me personally that God is the great “I AM”?
2. Where do I need to rely on His unchanging presence instead of my own strength?
3. How can I remind others today that God is still the same yesterday, today, and forever?
Prayer
Eternal God, thank You for revealing Yourself as the great “I AM.” You are all-sufficient, unchanging, and present in my life. Help me to trust You in every situation, knowing that You are more than enough for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
