Stand Firm in God’s Command
Scripture
“And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water. Then say to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Let My people go, that they may serve Me.’”
Exodus 8:20 (NKJV)
Courage at the River
God told Moses to rise early and stand before Pharaoh. This was not an easy command—Pharaoh was the most powerful man in Egypt. Yet Moses was called to deliver God’s word without compromise: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me.”
This verse reminds us:
Obedience requires courage. God often calls us to stand firm in places that intimidate us.
Timing matters. God instructed Moses when and where to speak; divine assignments are not random.
Freedom has purpose. Again, the command is not just release, but release to serve the Lord.
Moses wasn’t relying on his own authority but on God’s. The courage to confront Pharaoh came from knowing God was the One who sent him.
Reflection Questions
1. Where is God asking me to stand firm and speak His truth, even if it’s uncomfortable?
2. Do I recognize that my freedom in Christ is for service, not self-indulgence?
3. How can I prepare my heart to “rise early” in obedience to God’s leading each day?
Prayer
Lord God, give me the courage of Moses to stand firm before the “Pharaohs” in my life. Help me obey You promptly and boldly, knowing that Your authority is greater than any opposition. Teach me to use my freedom to serve You fully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
