Lane received this great devotion from Andy, a Bible teacher in Corona NM:
God gave Noah instructions but not a steering wheel
One of the most overlooked truths in Scripture is this:
God told Noah how to build the ark.
He told him what to bring.
He told him when to go in.
But He never gave Noah control over where it would land.
No rudder.
No steering wheel.
No navigation system.
Just obedience and trust.
Genesis 6 through 8 shows us something powerful. Noah was responsible for building. God was responsible for directing.
And this is where many believers struggle today.
We love God’s promises.
We love God’s instructions.
But we also want control over the outcome, the timeline, the location, and the process.
We keep trying to install steering wheels in situations where God is asking us to float.
The ark was not built for speed.
It was built for survival.
It was built for preservation.
It was built for purpose beyond Noah’s understanding.
Noah did not know where he would land. He only knew Who told him to build.
That is faith.
Hebrews 11:7 says Noah moved with godly fear and built something that had never existed before because he trusted a God he could not physically see.
Here is the modern application.
Many of you are frustrated because you are in a season where you cannot steer.
You cannot force doors open.
You cannot control outcomes.
You cannot rush timing.
And instead of trusting God, you are trying to grab the wheel.
You are trying to network your way into places God never assigned you.
You are trying to force relationships God never ordained.
You are trying to manufacture opportunities God never authored.
But floating seasons are not punishment. They are positioning.
The water that looked like destruction was actually transportation.
The flood that looked like chaos was actually relocation.
Sometimes God removes your steering wheel because your flesh will drive you somewhere your destiny cannot survive.
Proverbs 3:5 says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. That is anti steering wheel language.
Here is the bold truth.
Control is often disguised as wisdom.
But faith often looks like surrender.
Noah did not panic when it rained.
He did not jump ship when it flooded.
He did not try to redesign God’s plan mid storm.
He stayed inside what God told him to build.
And eventually the same waters that lifted him also carried him to promise.
If you are in a floating season, do not panic. Do not grab for control.
Do not abandon what God told you to build.
Because when God is driving, you do not need a steering wheel. You need obedience.
And sometimes the greatest faith is not knowing where you are going. But trusting the One who does.
