Daily Devotion - February 8
First Things First
(Matthew 6:33 NKJV)
Jesus speaks these words in the middle of a teaching on worry and provision. Rather than dismissing human needs, He addresses the root of anxiety—misplaced priority. When earthly concerns become central, peace erodes. Jesus redirects the heart toward God’s kingdom, where trust replaces fear.
Throughout Scripture, God honors right order. Solomon sought wisdom instead of wealth, and God added what he did not pursue. Seeking God first does not eliminate responsibility; it rightly positions it. When God is first, everything else finds its place.
Walking with God means choosing alignment over anxiety. Provision follows priority, not panic.
Reflection Questions:
1. What competes with God for first place in my life?
2. How has worry influenced my priorities recently?
3. What does seeking God first look like for me today?
Prayer:
Lord, reorder my heart and priorities. Forgive me for allowing worry to lead my decisions. Help me to seek You first, trusting that You will faithfully provide what I need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Practical Application:
● Begin your day with prayer and Scripture before other demands.
● Surrender one worry to God intentionally today.
● Evaluate decisions through the lens of God’s kingdom.
Takeaway Thought:
When God is first, peace and provision follow.
