My Hard Road to God.

“You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, shall revive me again, and bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.” Psalm 71:20–21
At the age of seventeen, I was living in Moscow and was interested only in young people, schoolwork, and entertainment. Neither God, faith, nor anything spiritual interested me. Even the two Christian aunts I lived with couldn’t interest me in the Bible, although I’d gone to church with them several times and read some illegal Christian books printed on parchment paper. Those books were brought to our country from abroad because we were living in Soviet Union times and the authorities did not encourage faith in God.
Despite all this, I did not become a believer. I married a man who held a rather high position, but he turned out to be very cruel toward me. Living with him, I saw all the hypocrisy of this world. High-ranking people would put on their “masks of piety” in public or at work. But the moment they got home, the masks would come off, and they would make life unbearable for their families.
Of course, my marriage ended up falling apart, and I got married a second time. I gave birth to a daughter when I was forty-one years old, and health problems were not long in coming. The doctors couldn’t solve them, nor could the psychics I turned to.
Then, in 2004, I learned about some Bible study meetings being held at the local Palace of Culture arena, and I began to attend them. Then I’d turn around and tell my two children everything I’d learned about Jesus and God’s law.
When the Bible program ended, my two daughters and my future son-in-law were baptized. Then, two years later, my husband was baptized, too. At the same time, he quit drinking and smoking—something he’d done since childhood. The Lord just took that desire away from him completely.
My family saw the wonderful hand of God with the birth of my first grandson. His umbilical cord was wrapped around him before he was born, and we were told he could suffer grave consequences at birth, as well as lifelong health problems. But our whole family prayed for a healthy baby, and the Lord answered us. Thank God, when that baby was born, it was impossible to know that anything had ever gone wrong!
Over time, my character changed, and the pain and resentment against my first husband left my heart. Today, I tell people about God and give them a Bible if they want one. I am so grateful that God found me!
