A Strange Fire

Leviticus 10:1-2 -And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before YHWH, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from YHWH, and devoured them, and they died before YHWH.

Wow, What is the fire it is talking about and what does it mean by strange fire? The fire is a fire offered by the priests to YHWH in reverence to him at the tabernacle. A strange fire is a fire that YHWH hasn’t instructed the priests to bring before him. You see YHWH instructed the children of YHWH to bring certain offerings to him as seen in the beginning chapters of Leviticus.

Exodus 30:9 -Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon, nor burnt sacrifice, nor meat offering; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon.

Nadab and Abihu offered an offering that was not ascribed by YHWH. As we see when it says “which he commanded them not”. Throughout the scriptures when YHWH said not to do something he meant it and he was very harsh in his punishment for disobedience.

We as well need to make sure we don’t offer any strange fire to YHWH. How can we do that? One way is to offer praise and worship to YHWH that is not pleasing to him. Another way is to speak in a way that is not pleasing to him. You see the idea here.

Let’s close with the following scriptures…

Colossians 1:10 - That ye might walk worthy of YHWH unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of YHWH;

Hebrews 13:21 - Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through YHWH Messiah; to whom be glory for ever and ever. amen.

1 John 3:22 - And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
