A humbled heart finds favor from the Lord.

God does not think or choose the way humans do. He looks at the heart of a person. King Saul became king because the people wanted him, and Samuel anointed him. But later, Saul stopped obeying God. He followed his own ideas, became proud, and disobeyed God’s commands. Because of this, God’s favor left him, and the Spirit of the Lord departed from him.

David was different. The Bible says David was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). David was not perfect and he sinned, but when he did wrong, he humbled himself and repented. He admitted his sins, asked God for mercy, and desired to obey God again. His heart was sincere and willing to follow God’s will.

God looks at the heart, not outward appearance or position (1 Samuel 16:7). What matters to God is obedience, humility, and true repentance. Anyone who humbles themselves, seeks God sincerely, and walks in obedience can find favor with Him—just as David did.
