A Father’s Love

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12–13
“Tell me the story again, Dad!” The boy had heard it so many times, but never grew tired of it.
His father smiled and pulled the lad close to him. He, too, never grew tired of telling it.
“Your mother and I got the call in the middle of the night—nearly 2:00 a.m.,” he began. “The case worker said, ‘Your son is about
to be born!’”
He told his son every detail of that eventful night… the greatest night of his life. He spoke of the joy of seeing his son for the first time, holding him close… counting every finger and toe. He had marveled over him in grateful awe, kissing his soft cheek for the first time. He told him how he and his mother chose him, and how they fell to their knees in that hospital room, giving thanks for their beautiful baby boy. Oh, how they loved him and would cherish him forever. Years had passed since his birth, but the father’s love for him had only grown deeper. It didn’t matter if the boy wasn’t perfect. It didn’t matter if he was adopted. He was chosen. He was his!
When we become a follower of Jesus Christ, we are adopted into the family of God. We are chosen by God, the Father, to become a part of His family! What a marvelously intense love He has for us. You are His child—no matter your age, race, financial status, beauty (or lack of it), you are the child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! You are an heir to His kingdom!
Just as this earthly father drew his beloved adopted son close to him, our Father stretches out His arms and draws us to Himself. He never lets go. He never will.
