He.

“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” Hebrews 13:5
As he drove slowly over the mountains and through the forests, his mind kept reflecting back to the times they’d traveled this road together. He thought back to the times they’d stopped by the gently flowing river to breathe deeply of the fresh mountain air. It had always brought peace to his soul and joy to his heart, but this time he was alone.
He felt the tears welling up in his eyes, and the pain that wrenched his heart was almost more than he could bear. All his hopes and dreams seemed to be slipping through his hands, and he realized that the world he knew, the one they had shared, was about to end.
He tried to press on, but by now he could barely see through his tear-filled eyes.
Why God? Why don’t You care? Where are You when I need You most?
He wanted to give up, but something held him back. He pulled over to the side of the road, knowing he couldn’t go on. He could feel himself losing control, and every ounce of strength he could muster wouldn’t be enough to keep him from going over the edge.
He still can’t remember exactly what happened ,but somehow, at the darkest moment, when it seemed that nothing could change the course that was destroying his life, Someone reached out to keep him from losing everything.
As he cried out, God’s heart ached for him. For as Ellen White wrote in her book The Desire of Ages, “Not a sigh is breathed, not a pain felt, not a grief pierces the soul, but the throb vibrates to the Father’s heart.”
Today he can look back to that moment and see how his Savior was by his side, holding him in His arms of love, and keeping him by His grace.
How is it for you? Are you going through a difficult time in your walk with the Lord? Do you feel His presence by your side?
If you feel you’re going under, remember His promise: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2. His promises are sure, for He can never fail.
