DAILY STRENGTH FOR MEN
February 11 (day 2)

Passage: Verse in Context - Deuteronomy 32:1, 3-4 NRSV

Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; let the earth hear the words of my mouth. For I will proclaim the name of the LORD; ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock, his work is perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God, without deceit, just and upright is he.

Related Passage - Matthew 16:13-19 NASB

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets." He said to them, "But who do you yourselves say that I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."

Questions for Reflection and Application

* How do you think that Simon, son of Jonah, felt when Jesus gave him the name that means "rock"?How would you feel?

* Has God given you a name, If so, what is it? If not, what would you like it to be?

* What areas of your life have you built on the foundation of God, the Rock? What areas of your life are built on something else?

* How would you describe the task of moving a part of your life from the wrong foundation to the Rock? How can you do it? Who can help?

Lord, as I struggle through difficult circumstances, keep me grounded on the Rock and not a clay substitute. Amen.
