Was it a Good Friday/Weekend for Jesus? Book of John RSV

John 19:14-18 Now it was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. He said to the Jews, "Here is your King!"

They cried out, "Away with him, away with him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

Then he handed him over to them to be crucified.

So they took Jesus, and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew Gol'go-tha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one of either side, and Jesus between them.

John 19:23-24 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was without seam, woven from top to bottom;

so they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be." This was to fulfil the scripture, "They parted my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots."

John 19:28-30 After this Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfil the scripture), "I thirst."

A bowl full of vinegar stood there; so they put a sponge full of vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth.

When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished"; and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

John 19:32-37 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and the other who had been crucified with him;

but when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.

He who saw it has borne witness--his testimony is true, and he knows that he tells the truth--that you also may believe.

For these things took place that the scripture might be fulfilled, "Not a bone of him shall be broken."

And again another scripture says, "They shall look on him whom they have pierced."

Jesus is Risen

John 20:1-18 Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag'da-lene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know they have laid him."

Peter then came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb.

They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first

and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.

Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into tomb; he saw the the linen cloths lying,

and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the lined cloths but rolled up in a place by itself.

Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb fist, also went in, and he saw and believed;

for as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

Then the disciples went back to their homes.

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb;

and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.

They said to her, "Women, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him."

Saying this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus.

Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?" Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him,and I will take him away."

Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rab-bo'-ni!" (which means Teacher).

Jesus said to her, "Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and says to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."

Mary Mag'da'lene went and said to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord"; and she told them that he had said these things to her.
