Dear Father,

Pharaoh had a dream, and through it, the lives of millions were preserved. Though the preservation of those lives wasn’t the result of Pharaoh’s dream alone, but of Joseph’s interpretation and wise counsel. What is a dream without the right counsel? And would we even seek counsel if we had no dreams? Still, millions of lives depended on these easily discarded concepts of spiritual direction and wise counsel.

I ponder how we all go in search of bread each day, often so focused on our routines that we fail to notice that Pharaoh’s dream still applies to our generation: seven years of abundance and seven years of lack. And how this applies not just to saving today for tomorrow but this concept speaks to seasons and spiritual direction.

The years of abundance may not always appear as times of great harvest; sometimes, they are seasons of modest yet steady flow of income, which necessitates that we build something worthwhile --- one brick at a time. Likewise, the years of lack may not only signify scarcity but a time that compels us to create value that would usher us into the season of abundance. Just as Pharaoh’s dream required Joseph’s interpretation, we too need wisdom to recognize our seasons and understanding to navigate them rightly.

Father, please grant us these gifts.
