George Wishart..

“The Flame has Scorched my body, yet it hath not daunted my spirit!!) - George Wishart

Causing much pains to the religious Romish sects, he was then apprehended and the Church possessed that no more of his sermons could be preached.

Then they began to close all pulpits and churches to this mighty reformer, so he went to the fields and streets, he became an Open air preacher!!!

One night it was said that Mr. Wishart was seen by two men leaving his place of stay and prostrating himself on the ground weeping and making supplication for nearly an hour and then returned to his rest.

In the morning they told him that they had seen him praying, and asked him why he was in such sorrow.
I will tell you he said “I assuredly know my travail is nigh an end, therefore, pray to God for me that I may not shrink when the battle waxes most hot.”

When I am gone, God will send you messengers who will not be afraid either for burning or banishment.
Hearing these words they burst into tears saying, that was but small comfort to them.”

He then replied… “God will send you comfort after me; this realm shall be illuminated with the light of Christ’s gospel as clearly as any realm ever was since the days of the apostles!”

Because of the uproar and offensive nature of the gospel to sinful humanity, bodyguards were at Wisharts side, one main one being John Knox!

Wishart openly attacking all the false doctrines of the Roman Church, was soon found in shackles and being bound hand and foot with bags of gunpowder
Being raised up from his knees he was bound to the stake crying with a loud voice O Saviour of the world have mercy upon me! Father of heaven I commend my spirit into thy holy hands!

Then the gunpower blew up! The captain of the castle perceiving he was still alive drew near and bid him be of good courage; whereupon Mr. Wishart said…

This flame hath scorched my body, yet it hath not daunted my spirit..As he was thus speaking , the executioner drew the cord that was about his neck so strait that he spoke no more, and thus, like another Elijah, he took flight by a fiery chariot into heaven, and obtained the Martyrs crown on the 1st of March 1546
