DAILY STRENGTH FOR MEN
February 13 (day 2)

Passage: Verse in Context - Joshua 1:5-11, 16-17 NRSV

"No one shall be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you: I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous; for you shall put this people in possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to act in accordance with all the law that my servant Moses commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your prosperous, and then you shall be successful. I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." They answered Joshua: "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you."

Questions for Reflection and Application

* What did you do to prepare the last time you faced a challenge that you weren't sure you could handle? Did anyone offer you guidance or encouragement? How well did you handle the challenge? Should you have done anything differently?

* What challenges loom on the horizon for you? Do you feel ready for them? What role is God playing in your facing these challenges? How can you rely more on God?

* How did Moses prepare Joshua for taking command? Is there anyone in your life whom you should be preparing for a leadership role? If so, how should you be preparing that person?

Father, help me to tackle today like a well-trained athlete prepared for your plan. Amen.
