“Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14

Many years ago, we lived and worked as volunteer missionaries on the tropical island of Phuket, Thailand, with our four children. We loved our time there and enjoyed our work at the hospital, the food, the people, the weather…. But the time came to return to Australia.

We sold, or gave away, as many possessions as we could, because we couldn’t afford to pay excess baggage at the airport. We all travelled to Bangkok by bus, then two of our children flew to Australia via Bali. The next day the remaining four of us went to the airport with all our luggage. There was obviously too much for four people. What were we going to do? We prayed and wondered how much this was going to cost us after living in Phuket on volunteer stipends.

When we arrived at the Bangkok airport, we stood in the long Economy class line to have our bags checked in. We were still wondering what this was going to cost us, when a uniformed man walked up behind the Business class check–in counter. He looked in our direction and started waving someone over to his counter. We looked to see who he was signalling, but saw no one. He kept waving, and we kept looking. Finally, we looked at him and pointed to ourselves. He nodded his head and signalled to us, again.

We grabbed all our things and moved over to his counter. He was very polite and put all our bags through without weighing them. He gave us our seat allocation and wished us a pleasant flight. Then he closed the counter and walked away.

All John and I could do was look at each other, without words, not understanding what had just happened; but I’m sure God sent an angel, dressed as an airline staff member, to put our bags through for us with no excess fee. Even today I’m amazed when I think about it.

The Bible says the angels minister to us in time of need—and sometimes they look like human beings. I’ve read many times about people who believe God sent an angel to help them, and I’m sure He sent one to us that day.

Have you seen an angel? Maybe you have without realizing it. God delights in sending us help in many different ways.

Sometimes He sends an angel.
