Good morning to everyone. Grace and Peace be with you.

A rock-solid night’s sleep. Wow. What a difference your own bed makes. I woke up once, early, with a head full of congestion; however, after the eviction took place, all was well in Whoville. Unfortunately, I think that I may need to go see a doctor about my knee. This weekend, my left knee began to give fits, worse than my right knee has ever given. Ache to the point that while lying in bed, that is all you can think about, kind of ache. This getting old thing is for the birds … just saying. Haha.

Over the years, I have been given journals as gifts. My desire to write and always having a place to write would be a good gift. I have a good selection of unused journals, because I never could get into the habit. Now. When I placed in the last Novel 90 challenge, one of the gifts …. Wait for it … A JOURNAL. I took it with me on this mini vacation. My husband and I ate at different times, so I took my journal down to breakfast with me.

So, in my mind, a journal is like a diary, in the sense that you write down your thoughts. Also, in my mind, a journal must be or should be cohesive … like a story. That is not how my journal looks. I decided that my journal would simply be what I saw those two mornings. An exercise in creative sentence structure about the people and situations that I saw at breakfast time. Each day I filled two pages. Nothing earth-shattering. Nothing ‘best-selling’. But an interesting experiment and exercise to help my mind find new ways to create characters, to set scenes, and to evoke emotion. My practice sentences could, in fact, be story starters.

I allowed my limited knowledge of journaling to hold me back from what God wanted my journaling to look like. Is there a time when He may want me to do more than practice sentences? Of course. But that is not what he wanted for now. He wants me to get comfortable in writing always, not just in the morning or the night or at lunch, always. Bullet points to later visit or abandon. A small act of obedience. I place in the same arena as the writing competitions. A place to hone skills. Think outside the box. A place to show who He is through my writing. A simple act of obedience.
What very small, seemingly insignificant task is He asking you to complete? Is it a new duty at work? Is it befriending the one person no one likes? Is it expressing your feelings to someone who consistently gets under your skin, but in a polite and adult manner? Is it changing your tardiness to punctuality? Is it stepping outside your comfort zone and doing something radical (in your eyes)? What is it that He is asking you to do, that you have conveniently ignored because it would not matter anyway?

Today, I encourage you to sit with Him. Talk to Him. Find that ONE thing that you have been avoiding … then take a step of faith and obey. One simple act of obedience is all He is asking for. Trust in Him.

Be blessed.
