JOY COMES IN THE MORNING WITH HOPE!

When A Father's Heart Breaks

This message takes us to ONE OF THE MOST HEARTBREAKING SCENES in Scripture — the moment WHEN JACOB BELIEVED HE HAD LOST HIS BELOVED SON, JOSEPH.

In Genesis 37, Joseph’s brothers, jealous and filled with hatred, sold him into slavery. To cover their sin, THEY DIPPED JOSEPH’S COAT IN BLOOD and BROUGHT IT TO THEIR FATHER. WHEN JACOB SAW IT, HE CRIED OUT IN ANGUISH. The Bible says HE TORE HIS CLOTHES, PUT ON SACKCLOTH, and MOURNED many days. He REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED.

Jacob said, “For I WILL GO DOWN INTO THE GRAVE UNTO MY SON MOURNING.”

THIS WAS NOT A SMALL GRIEF. THIS WAS A FATHER’S SHATTERED HEART.

JOSEPH WAS NOT JUST ANOTHER SON. BUT THE SON OF JACOB’S OLD AGE. HE WAS THE SON OF HIS BELOVED WIFE RACHEL. JOSEPH REPRESENTED JOY, PROMISE, and HOPE.

And SUDDENLY — HOPE APPEARED DEAD.

HAVE WE EVER EXPERIENCED THAT KIND OF PAIN?
Not necessarily LOSING A PERSON, but LOSING A DREAM… LOSING A RELATIONSHIP… LOSING SOMETHING WE PRAYED FOR.

JACOB’S GRIEF WAS RAW and REAL. The Bible does not hide it. God allows us to see that EVEN PATRIARCHS CRY. EVEN STRONG MEN BREAK. EVEN THOSE CHOSEN BY GOD EXPERIENCE SEASONS OF UNBEARABLE SORROW.

Faith Does Not Make Us Immune To Pain!

Jacob saw the bloody coat. To him, the evidence was undeniable. The coat said, “Joseph is gone.”

But what Jacob Did Not Know was this:
JOSEPH WAS NOT DEAD, HE WAS IN GOD’S PROCESS. SOMETIMES WHAT LOOKS LIKE A GRAVE IS ACTUALLY A GATEWAY.

Sometimes WHAT LOOKS LIKE A TRAGEDY IS PART OF DIVINE POSITIONING.

While JACOB WAS MOURNING in Canaan, GOD WAS MOVING in Egypt. While JACOB WAS WEEPING, HEAVEN WAS WORKING.

There are seasons when THE EVIDENCE AROUND US SCREAMS, “IT’S OVER.” But God may be whispering, “I AM NOT FINISHED.”

Notice something powerful: God did not immediately correct Jacob. God did not appear and say, “Jacob, calm down. Joseph is alive.”

Jacob had to walk through years of grief without explanation. Because SOMETIMES FAITH GROWS NOT IN UNDERSTANDING— but IN ENDURANCE.

There are MOMENTS WHEN GOD IS SILENT, NOT BECAUSE HE IS ABSENT, but BECAUSE HE IS ORCHESTRATING SOMETHING GREATER than we can comprehend.

Imagine Jacob’s prayers.
“Lord, why would You take my son?”
“Lord, why this pain?”

Yet HEAVEN HAD A BIGGER PLAN — ONE THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY SAVE JACOB’S ENTIRE FAMILY from famine.

BEFORE JOSEPH WAS EVER BORN, GOD HAD PROMISED Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob THAT THEIR DESCENDANTS WOULD BECOME A GREAT NATION.

That Promise Did Not Disappear Because Of Joseph’s Supposed Death.

OUR PAIN DOES NOT CANCEL GOD’S COVENANT OVER OUR LIFE. OUR TEARS DO NOT ERASE GOD’S PROMISES.

Jacob felt like EVERYTHING WAS COLLAPSING — but IN REALITY, IT WAS ADVANCING.

The Bible says Jacob refused to be comforted.

Grief is natural. Mourning is healthy. But LIVING PERMANENTLY IN SORROW CAN IMPRISON THE SOUL.

Some people have built houses in seasons that were meant to be temporary.

Jacob did not know it, but HIS MOURNING HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE. There would come a day when he would hear the words:
“JOSEPH IS STILL ALIVE.”

Can you Imagine That Moment? The Bible says his heart fainted, for he did not believe them at first. But when he saw the wagons sent from Egypt, HIS SPIRIT REVIVED.

The same father who once said, “I will go down to the grave mourning,” would later embrace the son he thought was dead.

First, it is okay to grieve. GOD DOES NOT CONDEMN BROKEN HEARTS.
Second, what we think is dead may still be ALIVE IN GOD’S PLAN.
Third, SILENCE DOES NOT MEAN ABANDONMENT.
Fourth, GOD IS WORKING IN PLACES WE CANNOT SEE.

WHILE JACOB WEPT in Canaan, JOSEPH WAS BEING ELEVATED in Egypt.

While JACOB FELT LOSS, GOD WAS POSITIONING PROVISION.

Joseph’s story also foreshadows something greater. A beloved Son, rejected by His brothers, believed to be lost — yet RAISED TO SAVE MANY.

Just as Jacob believed JOSEPH WAS DEAD but later FOUND HIM ALIVE, the disciples believed JESUS WAS LOST — but HE ROSE AGAIN.

What GRIEF DECLARED FINAL, GOD DECLARED TEMPORARY.

If you are in a “Genesis 37” season; If you are holding a bloody coat in your hands ; If you are grieving something you believe is gone forever —DO NOT LOSE HOPE. God may be preparing your “Genesis 45” reunion.

THE SAME GOD WHO RESTORED JACOB CAN RESTORE US.
THE SAME GOD WHO TURNED JOSEPH’S PIT INTO A PALACE CAN TURN OUR SORROW INTO SALVATION.

Our story is not over.
WEEPING MAY ENDURE FOR A NIGHT,
BUT JOY — JOY COMES IN THE MORNING.
