LENT DAY 3 – Tearing Down Idols
You shall have no other gods before Me.”- Exodus 20:3
Thought Of The Day...
The first commandment is not just a rule—it is a revelation of God’s heart. Before He addresses behavior, He addresses allegiance. “You shall have no other gods before Me” is a call to exclusive devotion.
An idol is not only a carved statue. It is anything that competes with God for first place in our hearts. It can be success, reputation, comfort, relationships, ministry, money, routines—even good things. When a blessing becomes more important than the Blesser, it becomes an idol.
Lent is a sacred season of exposure. God lovingly reveals what has slowly taken His place. Sometimes idols are obvious; other times they are hidden beneath busyness, ambition, or even responsibility. Whatever we trust more than God… whatever we fear losing more than we fear grieving Him… whatever consumes our thoughts more than His presence—that is where our altar has shifted.
But God does not expose idols to shame us. He reveals them to free us.
When idols fall, intimacy is restored. When false thrones are dismantled, the true King reigns without competition. And when God alone sits at the center, peace, clarity, and purpose return to their rightful order.
This is the heart of Lent: not merely giving something up, but putting God back where He belongs—first.

Prayer...
Father God, You are holy, sovereign, and unmatched in glory. There is no one like You, and there is nothing that compares to Your greatness. Today I come before You in humility during this Lenten season, asking You to search me deeply and thoroughly. Shine the light of Your Spirit into every corner of my heart. Reveal anything that has quietly risen above You in my priorities, my passions, or my pursuits.
Lord, forgive me for the times I have allowed good things to take first place. Forgive me if I have trusted in my own strength more than in Your power, if I have relied on provision more than the Provider, or if I have sought affirmation from people more than approval from You. Tear down every hidden idol—whether it be pride, ambition, comfort, fear, control, relationships, success, or security.
If there is anything I cling to more tightly than I cling to You, loosen my grip. If there is anything I fear losing more than I fear being distant from You, reorder my heart. If there is anything that consumes my thoughts more than Your Word, realign my mind.
Lord, cleanse my worship. Remove divided loyalties. Strip away every false throne that competes with Your authority in my life. I do not want a form of godliness without surrender. I do not want ritual without relationship. I want You—fully, completely, and without competition.
Teach me to love You with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength. Let my home reflect Your lordship. Let my leadership reflect Your humility. Let my decisions reflect Your wisdom. As a husband, father, and servant of Christ, help me model undivided devotion so that those entrusted to me see a life where You are truly first.
Holy Spirit, empower me to walk away from anything that weakens my devotion. Give me courage to dismantle every idol and replace it with deeper intimacy. Rebuild the altar of worship in my heart. Let my life declare that You alone are God.
You are my source, my portion, my provider, and my peace. I surrender every throne to You now. Sit fully and firmly in the center of my life. Reign without rival. Rule without resistance.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Declaration...
• God alone sits on the throne of my life.
• Every idol falls in the presence of His glory.
• My heart is undivided and fully devoted to Him.
• I worship the Lord—and Him only will I serve.
Amen.
