Dear Father,
There's a popular scripture that says, “Whom the Lord loves, He chastens.” I pondered how this chastening often applies in various forms; as it relates to our assignments, and how it is tailored to suit each individual’s unique attributes.
I once heard a man of God speak about being disciplined by very strict people. And although discipline cuts across various areas, You pay much attention to our associations, so much so that You orchestrate plans around the people we encounter for Your purpose of training men through men.
However, I am concerned about situations where ill-mannered men are chosen to train Your people. How can character be built in one through the pride and arrogance exhibited by another? Since when does leadership coexist peacefully with hypocrisy? I have noticed, however, that it takes wisdom to recognize right counsel even from a faulty source. And the greatest test often lies in learning from atmospheres that seem beneath us, because this isn’t a test of knowledge, but a test of humility and character.
This journey requires more than the gifts we easily wield or the fluency of wisdom-filled words we speak. It is about building the strength to remain consistent without rewards. It is patience during tribulations; obedience that reveals humility; trust when the promise seems far-fetched; and the unwavering belief that Your chastening is the fruit of Your love, designed for our growth.
