As we travel along this road called life, we pass many signposts.
Some tell us how far to the next destination. The journey feels long and we cry, “Are we there yet?”
Others mark shorter trips that seem over far too soon.
There are slow down signs, inviting us to pause and enjoy the ride.
Stop signs, warning us to be careful where we step.
Danger signs that alert us to what lies ahead.
Turn around signs when we are heading in the wrong direction.
Water on the road, reminding us not to be swept away by currents stronger than we are.
And the one way sign, pointing clearly to the path we are meant to follow.
What happens when we ignore the signs?
They can lead to danger, trouble and strife.
Lord, You have placed signposts along my road.
There were times I chose to ignore them and go my own way.
In doing things my way, I became lost, broken and discouraged.
Jesus, You are the true signpost.
You point the way to the Father.
When I follow Your direction, my journey is steadier.
Yes, there are bumps in the road — sometimes big ones that hurt as we pass over them —
but You are my True North.
Following Your signposts may take me on roads that are long or winding, short or exhilarating,
but they will always lead me home.
For the joy is not found merely in the destination,
but in walking the journey with You.
