The moment I start measuring someone else’s faith, devotion, or spiritual growth, my eyes drift away from Him and settle on them. What begins as observation quietly turns into comparison. And comparison slowly steals intimacy.
Instead of praying, I analyze.
Instead of surrendering, I assess.
Instead of worshiping, I measure.
And without realizing it, my heart grows distant.
God never asked me to monitor someone else’s walk with Him. He asked me to walk with Him myself. The more I focus on how deeply others pray, how passionately they worship, or how faithfully they serve, the less I pay attention to my own obedience, my own repentance, my own hunger for Him.
There is something dangerously subtle about spiritual comparison. It can make me feel superior… or insecure. Either way, it shifts my focus away from grace.
True relationship with God is built in humility, not evaluation. It grows in surrender, not scrutiny.
When I evaluate others, I lose tenderness.
When I judge, I lose closeness.
When I compare, I lose peace.
But when I turn my eyes back to Him
when I say, “Lord, search my heart instead”
everything changes.
