Everything Matters to God

“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:7

The problems in my family were common to many Russian households. My children were often sick, my husband and I were on the verge of a divorce, and we had a lot of other unsolved problems. Once, our housing problem became especially acute and very serious.

Of course, I began to look for a way out of this situation and I figured I’d have to do it on my own. But finding a solution was beyond my strength. I couldn’t even find an answer in the church I sometimes attended. Reading the Bible on my own didn’t help, either, because I didn’t understand it.

But God doesn’t want His children to be left in the dark by ourselves, and one day, as I was returning home by train, a fellow passenger began to simply and clearly explain biblical truths to me, including God’s Ten Commandments. I wanted to hear more, but, unfortunately, our travel time together was coming to an end. Finally, another passenger told me there was a church in my city where they actually studied the Bible. That was what I needed!

In this church, I learned a lot about God, but for some reason I did not understand the importance of attending divine worship services on a regular basis. After a while, I stopped attending their meetings, but who would have thought of the circumstances that would soon prompt me not just to walk but to run back to this church!

I remember I was passing under the windows of a house, when a heavy bottle of champagne flew a centimeter from my face and shattered next to me. As I looked at the shards of that glass “bomb,” I imagined, with horror, what would have happened if it would have hit my head! That same day, I hurried back to that church, and I never left it.

God’s message, friendly people—I liked everything about that church. I learned to pray to God in my own words, and to receive answers and help from Him. He changed my life for the better—my children stopped getting sick, and even my relationship with my husband improved. But one of the biggest miracles for me was getting a three-room apartment, when free apartments were no longer available.

The Bible and God have enriched my professional life, too. I worked as a nurse in an ambulance, but the Word of God, in addition to spiritual truths, revealed to me new principles of health. Now I am the head of our church’s health department, and I firmly believe that nothing in our lives is unimportant to God.
