Big Talkers
If someone told you that they would help you do a project but never showed up, it would make you question their reliability. And if it happened the next weekend, and the next, and the next, pretty soon you wouldn’t believe what they said at all. There are many people in this world who are big talkers but not actual “doers.” They sound and act convincing, but because their past behavior wasn’t dependable, people lost faith in their word and stopped believing in anything they promised to do. It’s not enough to “want” to do something; you must actually make the effort to make it happen. Even the best cooking pot will not produce food. To publish a book, you must start writing. Before performing a piano concert, you have to take piano lessons. So it is with everything in life - nothing happens if you do “nothing.” Too many people “aspire” to attain their goals, but many never accomplish them because they never even tried. The same can be said about people who profess to love God. They talk the talk . . . but don’t walk the walk. They may even know their Bible so well that they can quote one Bible verse after another, but their actions don’t show the world that they belong to Jesus. The Bible says in James 1:22, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Christianity is not about saying all the right things. It’s about taking on the characteristics of Christ and living how you believe. Decide today “whom” you belong to and then instead of being a “big talker,” let your actions prove it. Text: 1 John 3:17-18, Matthew 5:16, Matthew 12:33-35, James 2:26
