What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it, the molded image, a teacher of lies, that the maker of its mold should trust in it, to make mute idols? - Habakkuk 2:18

Things we want, things we “deserve”, things we wish we had. They are placed in our path as false idols, to draw us away from whom we should worship. The enemy has always sent temptation in the path of God’s people. The enemy has always tried to trap us with the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the boastful pride of life. The Bible tells us of the attempts, from Adam and Eve, who fell, to Jesus who overcame, and many in between and after. But he can’t give us everlasting life in heaven, surrounded by the true glory of God. He was thrown out of heaven for trying to usurp God’s power and he doesn’t want us to enjoy heaven. The Lord God Himself, the triune God, is whom we should want, whom we don’t deserve by our own actions. Only by the grace of Jesus is that path opened to us. His glory will shine in our lives, through us, as we walk with Him, as we reflect the love and truth of the gospel to a world that is focused on momentary gratification. Listen to the still small voice of the in-dwelt Holy Spirit, that will lead you. How can you tell it’s the Holy Spirit and not the enemy speaking to you? Your true path will align with God’s word and not lead you away from God. Discernment is key - listen carefully and be Bereans in your checking God’s word yourself. Don’t seek or follow mute idols. Stand firm!

Father God, the one True God, we praise you as Jehovah El Emeth, the Lord God of Truth, who sent His Son to bear our sins upon the cross so we might be able to enter into Your heavenly rest when our days on earth are over. Thank You, Father God, for the instructions You had penned, the Bible, to show us Your truths, to open our eyes to the temptations that we may face from the enemy. As we see the examples of heroes of our faith, Father, we are humbled and in awe in how they sacrificed to overcome the enemy. May we follow their examples to bring ourselves into a right understanding of Your desires for our lives. Let us examine our hearts this day and may You help us to cleanse any desires that do not align with Your purpose for our lives. We humble our hearts this day and praise you, El Shaddai, Our God Almighty. Amen
