Day 7 – Onesiphorus
Unashamed Loyalty
Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:16–18; 2 Timothy 4:19
Rome was not kind to Christians.
Paul is in chains. Cold. Isolated. Many who once walked with him have quietly stepped back. Association with a prisoner could cost reputation… safety… opportunity.
But one man searches the city.
Not casually. Not symbolically.
Scripture says he “searched hard” until he found Paul.
Onesiphorus.
He refreshes him. Encourages him. Stays near him.
He was not ashamed of chains.
That line matters.
Because shame is subtle.
It doesn’t always look like denial.
Sometimes it looks like distance.
Silence.
Avoidance.
Impossible obedience sometimes looks like staying when it would be easier to detach.
Onesiphorus did not preach a sermon.
He practiced presence.
He didn’t remove Paul’s chains.
He strengthened the man inside them.
And heaven recorded his name.
Reflection Prompt
Who is in a “prison season” around you — discouraged, sidelined, misunderstood — that you’ve quietly stepped back from?
“I will not distance myself from what God calls me to stand beside. I choose loyalty over comfort.”
Lord, make me courageous in quiet ways. Teach me to show up when it costs something. Let me refresh the weary and stand unashamed in difficult places. Form in me a faith that does not retreat when things become inconvenient. Amen.
