Giving God the Credit

Scripture

1 Samuel 11:13 (NKJV)
But Saul said Not a man shall be put to death this day for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel

Recognizing the Lord as the Source of Victory

1 Samuel chapter 11 records Saul’s first major test as the newly anointed king of Israel. When the Ammonites threaten the people of Jabesh Gilead, fear spreads throughout the nation. The situation appears desperate, but the Spirit of God comes upon Saul and he leads Israel to unite and respond.

God grants Israel a decisive victory. After the battle some of the people want to punish those who had doubted Saul’s leadership earlier. It would have been easy for Saul to act out of pride or revenge. Instead he refuses and makes a powerful declaration. Today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel.

Saul recognizes that the victory did not come from his leadership alone. It came from God’s intervention. By redirecting the attention to the Lord, Saul demonstrates humility and wisdom at this moment in his leadership.

This chapter teaches that success should always lead to gratitude toward God. When God grants victory, promotion, or breakthrough, the proper response is to honor Him rather than seek personal recognition.

For believers today 1 Samuel 11 reminds us that every victory ultimately belongs to the Lord. Whether in personal struggles, ministry opportunities, or daily responsibilities, God is the one who gives strength and success.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I give God credit when good things happen in my life

2. How do I respond when others recognize my success or achievements

3. Am I quick to point others to God’s faithfulness

Prayer

Lord God thank You for every victory You bring into my life. Help me to remain humble and always acknowledge that You are the source of every good thing. Guard my heart from pride and teach me to give You the glory in every success. In Jesus name Amen.
