Romans 13:11-12
“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
Paul gives a strong reminder in Romans 13 that we cannot live spiritually asleep in the times we are living in. Every day that passes brings us closer to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a time for believers to wake up, to be alert, and to live lives that reflect the light of Christ.
To “put aside the deeds of darkness” means leaving behind the things that do not please God sin, bitterness, dishonesty, pride, and selfishness. Instead, we are called to put on the armor of light and live in righteousness, love, and truth.
As followers of Christ, our lives should shine in a dark world. The way we speak, the way we treat others, and the way we live should point people to Jesus.
Today let us wake up spiritually, draw closer to God, and walk in His light. The world needs believers who truly live what they believe.
Prayer:
Lord, awaken our hearts and help us not to grow spiritually sleepy. Strengthen us to turn away from darkness and to walk in Your light every day. Let our lives shine for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
