Friday Morning Devotional – Lent Day 24
Theme: Loving the Unlovable
Scripture:
“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” — 1 John 4:7 (KJV)
Thought Of The Day...
Love is the clearest reflection of God’s nature. The apostle John reminds believers that love does not originate from human effort—it flows from God Himself. When God lives in us, His love should flow through us.
The true test of our faith is not how we treat people who are kind, easy, or agreeable. Anyone can love those who love them back. But Christlike love reaches further. It extends grace to the difficult coworker, patience to the stubborn family member, mercy to the person who hurt us, and compassion to the one others avoid.
During this Lenten season, God calls us to examine our hearts. Are there people we have quietly written off? Are there relationships where bitterness has replaced compassion? The love of Christ challenges us to move beyond comfort and into transformation.
Jesus loved the rejected, the broken, and even those who opposed Him. If we belong to Him, that same love must shape our actions. Loving the unlovable does not mean accepting wrong behavior—it means reflecting God’s mercy even when it is difficult.
When we love this way, we become living evidence that God’s Spirit is working within us. Love becomes our witness.
Today, ask God to stretch your heart beyond your natural limits. His love is greater than offense, deeper than hurt, and stronger than pride. When His love flows through you, lives—including your own—are changed.
Prayer...
Heavenly Father, I come before You this morning with a grateful heart, thanking You for the love You have shown toward me. Your Word reminds me that love comes from You, and that everyone who loves is born of You and knows You. Thank You for loving me even when I was lost, broken, and undeserving of Your grace. Thank You for Your mercy that covered my sins and Your patience that continues to guide my life.
Lord, as I begin this day, I ask that You fill my heart with Your divine love. Remove anything within me that prevents me from loving others the way You love me. Take away bitterness, resentment, pride, and unforgiveness. Cleanse my heart from every negative thought and replace it with compassion, grace, and understanding.
Father, there are times when loving others is difficult. Some people challenge my patience, test my character, and stretch my emotions. But Your Word calls me to love not just those who are easy to love, but also those who are difficult. Teach me how to show kindness when I feel hurt, patience when I feel frustrated, and mercy when I feel offended.
Lord, help me to remember that every person I encounter is someone You created and someone You care about. Give me the wisdom to respond with gentleness instead of anger. Give me the strength to show grace instead of judgment. Let my words build up instead of tearing down, and let my actions reflect the heart of Christ.
Holy Spirit, guide my thoughts, my conversations, and my responses throughout this day. When situations arise that challenge my love, remind me of how patient You have been with me. When I am tempted to react in the flesh, help me walk in the Spirit. Let Your love flow through me so that others may experience Your kindness through my life.
Father, expand my compassion today. Open my eyes to people who may be hurting, overlooked, or rejected. Help me become a vessel of Your love, encouragement, and peace. Use my life to reflect the character of Jesus in every place I go.
And Lord, as I continue this Lenten journey, shape my heart to become more like Christ. Teach me to love sacrificially, forgive freely, and serve humbly. May my life be a testimony of Your transforming power.
I surrender my heart to You today. Fill me with Your love so completely that it overflows into every relationship, every conversation, and every situation I face.
In the mighty and loving name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
Declaration...
I walk in Christlike love. God’s love flows through me, and I reflect His compassion to everyone I encounter today.
