The Veil of Separation
Scripture
Exodus 26:33 (NKJV)
And you shall hang the veil from the clasps. Then you shall bring the ark of the Testimony in there, behind the veil. The veil shall be a divider for you between the holy place and the Most Holy.
The Barrier and the Bridge
In this verse, God gives instructions for the tabernacle. A thick veil was to separate the holy place from the Most Holy Place, where the ark of the covenant and God’s presence would dwell. This veil was a constant reminder that sin separated humanity from the holiness of God. Only the high priest could enter once a year, and only with blood.
But this veil also pointed to something greater. When Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. Through His sacrifice, the barrier of sin was removed. Believers now have access to the presence of God, not through rituals, but through Christ our High Priest.
This verse challenges us to treasure that access. What was once closed off has now been opened through Jesus.
Reflection Questions
1. Do I realize the privilege of having direct access to God through Christ?
2. Am I making time to enter into His presence, or am I neglecting this gift?
3. How can I approach God today with reverence and gratitude for what Christ has done?
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for opening the way into Your presence through the sacrifice of Jesus. Help me never to take this access for granted. Teach me to come boldly, yet humbly, before Your throne of grace, finding mercy and help in time of need. In Jesus name, Amen.
