Carried on the Heart

Scripture

Exodus 28:29 (NKJV)
So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment over his heart, when he goes into the holy place, as a memorial before the Lord continually.

The High Priest’s Heart

In this verse, God instructs that the high priest’s breastplate be set with twelve stones, each engraved with the name of a tribe of Israel. When Aaron entered the holy place, he carried the names of God’s people over his heart as a memorial before the Lord. This showed that the high priest represented the people before God in love, prayer, and intercession.

This points us to Jesus Christ, our perfect High Priest. He carries our names on His heart before the Father, interceding for us continually. His love is personal, unending, and faithful. Unlike Aaron, who could only enter the holy place at certain times, Jesus lives forever to make intercession for us.

For believers today, this verse reminds us that we are always on the heart of Christ, and it calls us to carry others in prayer and love before the Lord.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I rest in the truth that I am carried on the heart of Christ?

2. How often do I bring others before God in prayer, as Aaron did with the tribes of Israel?

3. How can I grow in compassion for God’s people, reflecting the heart of Christ?

Prayer

Lord God, thank You that Jesus, my High Priest, carries me on His heart before You continually. Teach me to live in the assurance of His intercession. Help me also to carry others in prayer and to show love and compassion that reflects His heart. In Jesus name, Amen
