Psalm 4:6-8/2 Corinthians 4:6-10 Comparing From NKJV Reader's, KJV American Bicentennial Edition 1776-1976 Jerry Falwell, ANT James Moffatt (Old), TLB The People's SB, NLT Abundant Life
Psalm 4:6-8 ANT James Moffatt (Old) Many long for a sight of prosperous days; "Only look up and smile on us, O Eternal!"
My heart thou hast already given more joy than theirs who harvest corn and store new wine.
So quietly I lay me down to sleep, for even alone, thanks to thee, I am secure.
2 Corinthians 4:6-10 ANT James Moffatt (Old) For God who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," has shone within my heart to illuminate men with the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Christ.
But I possess this treasure in a frail vessel of earth, to show that the transcending power belongs to God, not to myself;
on every side I am harried but not hemmed in, perplexed
but not despairing, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not destroyed--
wherever I go, I am being killed in the body as Jesus was, so that the life of Jesus may come out in my body;
Micah 7:7-8 ANT James Moffatt (Old) As for me, I will look out for the Eternal, I will await my saviour God; my God will aid me.
Exult not over me, my enemies; though I fall, I rise, though I sit in darkness, the Eternal is my light.
C. The Psalmist's Confidence in GOD
Psalm 4:6-8 TLB The People's SB Many say that God will never help us. Prove them wrong, O Lord, by letting the light of your face shine down upon us.
Yes, the gladness you have given me is far greater than their joys at harvest time as they gaze at their bountiful crops.
I will lie down in peace and sleep, for though I am alone, O Lord, you will keep me safe.
2 Corinthians 4:6-10 TLB The People's SB For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made us understand that it is the brightness of his glory that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.
3. The Perserverance of the Ministry
But this precious treasure--this light and power that now shine within us--is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do, but we don't give up and quit.
We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.
These bodies of ours are constantly facing death just as Jesus did; so it is clear to all that it is only the living Christ within [who keeps us safe]
Micah 7:7-8 TLB The People's SB As for me, I look to the Lord for his help; I wait for God to save me; he will hear me.
Do not rejoice against me, O my enemy, for though I fall, I will rise again! When I sit in darkness, the Lord himself will be my light.
Psalm 4:6-8 NLT Abundant Life Many people say, "Who will show us better times?" Let your face smile on us, LORD.
You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.
2 Corinthians 4:6-10 NLT Abundant Life For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.
We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.
Through sufferings, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.
Micah 7:7-8 NLT Abundant Life As for me, I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
Do not gloat over me, my enemies! For though I fall, I will rise again. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.
