Fourth Sunday of Lent – Day 26
The Cost of Betrayal
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, [15] and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. [16] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.- Matthew 26:14–16
Thought Of The Day...
One of the most sobering moments in Scripture occurs when Judas Iscariot walks into the presence of the chief priests and asks a chilling question: “What will you give me if I deliver Him unto you?” For thirty pieces of silver, he chose betrayal over devotion.
Betrayal rarely begins with a sudden decision—it begins with a compromised heart. Small allowances, quiet discontent, and hidden motives can slowly erode our loyalty to Christ. Judas had walked with Jesus, witnessed miracles, heard the teachings, and yet somewhere along the journey his heart drifted from devotion to deception.
This passage reminds us that proximity to Christ is not the same as surrender to Christ. You can hear the Word and still harbor compromise if your heart is not guarded.
Lent calls us to examine our hearts deeply. It invites us to remove anything that competes with our loyalty to Jesus—ambition, greed, pride, or hidden sin. The enemy still tries to purchase our devotion with temporary rewards, but nothing the world offers is worth betraying the One who gave His life for us.
Faithfulness is proven not only in public worship but in private choices. Every day we decide whether Christ is truly Lord of our hearts.
Today, choose loyalty. Guard your heart. Stay close to the Savior.
Prayer...
Faithful Lord,
Search my heart and reveal anything within me that could lead me away from You. Protect me from compromise, hidden motives, and the temptation to trade eternal truth for temporary gain. Strengthen my spirit so that I remain steadfast in my devotion to Christ. When the pressures of the world try to pull me away, anchor my heart in Your truth and love. Help me walk in integrity, humility, and unwavering faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Declaration...
I remain loyal to Christ.
My heart is guarded against compromise.
No price the world offers is worth betraying my Savior.
