Mystical Gardens Tale

Empty Hands

Jenny stood in the middle of what used to be her life. Boxes were stacked in uneven towers around her, some half full, some already taped shut. Black trash bags lined the wall like silent witnesses. A chair she loved sat near the door with a bright sticker on itтАФdiscard. Someone else had decided it wasnтАЩt worth taking.

She pressed her hand against one of the boxes and closed her eyes. This was not how she thought life would go. Women didnтАЩt just live in places. They wove themselves into them. Every curtain, every dish, every small decoration carried a memory. Roots didnтАЩt just grow in soilтАФthey grew in the quiet places of a home. And now, her roots were being pulled upтАж one item at a time.

тАЬYou can only take what you can carry,тАЭ they had told her. The rest? Gone. Hauled away. Forgotten. Even the money felt strange in her hands. Enough to start overтАФbut not enough to waste. Use it or lose it. Spend wisely. Buy only what you need. Need.

She looked around again and realized she didnтАЩt even know what that meant anymore.
A sudden wave of exhaustion hit her, and she stepped outside just to breathe. The air felt differentтАФtoo open, too uncertain. She walked without thinking, away from the noise, away from the decisions. ThatтАЩs when she saw it. A narrow path winding quietly between two overgrown hedges.

Something about it feltтАж familiar. Not inviting, not uninviting. Just present.
Jenny hesitated. Then she followed it. The garden wasnтАЩt what she expected. There were no bright flowers or overflowing colors. No comforting benches or winding streams. Just open ground, soft and bare, stretching out beneath a pale sky. In the center stood a single tree. It wasnтАЩt dead, but it wasnтАЩt full either. It simply was.

Jenny stepped forward slowly, her arms still wrapped around the small bag she had brought with her. The one thing she refused to let go of. A few clothes. A photograph. A small keepsake she couldnтАЩt explain but couldnтАЩt leave behind. She held it tighter. тАЬI canтАЩt lose everything,тАЭ she whispered.

The wind stirred gently across the garden.
And thenтАФthe strap of her bag snapped.
Jenny gasped as it fell from her hands, spilling its contents onto the ground. She dropped to her knees, scrambling to gather them, but as her fingers brushed the items... they began to fade.

тАЬNoтАФno, no, noтАжтАЭ she breathed, trying to grab hold of anything, but each item slipped through her hands like dust, dissolving into the soil beneath her. The photograph vanished last. Jenny froze. Her hands were empty. Completely, painfully empty.

She stayed there for a long moment, staring at the place where her life had just disappeared for the second time. тАЬWhy?тАЭ she whispered, her voice breaking. тАЬWhy does everything have to be taken?тАЭ

The treeтАЩs branches shifted softly above her, though there was no wind strong enough to move them. And then, in the stillness, a voiceтАФquiet, steady, and older than the soil itself: тАЬYou grieve what you cannot carryтАжтАЭ JennyтАЩs breath caught. тАЬтАжbut you do not yet see what you have been freed from.тАЭ

Tears welled in her eyes. тАЬFreed?тАЭ she said bitterly. тАЬThat was my life.тАЭ

тАЬIt was only what you gathered,тАЭ the voice replied. тАЬNot what really matters.тАЭ

Jenny shook her head, anger and sorrow rising together. тАЬIt mattered. It all mattered.тАЭ

тАЬYes,тАЭ the tree said gently. тАЬBut not all things that matter are meant to remain.тАЭ

She lowered her gaze to her empty hands.
They trembled. тАЬI donтАЩt have anything now,тАЭ she said quietly.

For a moment, there was no answer. Then a single leaf drifted down from the tree, landing softly in her palm. тАЬYou have what you need,тАЭ the voice said.

Jenny let out a shaky breath. тАЬThis? This is nothing.тАЭ

тАЬIt is a new place,тАЭ the tree answered. тАЬIt is a place of readiness. It is a place where something new can be givenтАж without being crowded out by what was.тАЭ

She stared at the small leaf in her hand.
For the first time, she noticed the earth around her. This place wasnтАЩt barren. It was in a season of waiting. The soil was soft. Unclaimed. Open. Not stripped, but prepared. A quiet understanding began to settle over her, fragile but real. All the things she had fought to keepтАж all the weight she had tried to carry into her futureтАж she wouldnтАЩt have had room for anything new if she held onto the old.

Jenny slowly unclenched her fingers, letting the leaf rest lightly in her open palm.
тАЬI donтАЩt know how to start over,тАЭ she admitted.

тАЬYou do not start with everything,тАЭ the tree said. тАЬYou start with what is given.тАЭ

As she watched, a small bud appeared on one of the branches above her. Then another. Not abundance. Not excess. Just enough.

Jenny took a steady breath. Her hands were still empty. But they no longer felt helpless. They feltтАж ready.

Scripture
Isaiah 43:18тАУ19 тАЬForget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?тАЭ
