Please pass me the salt
Leviticus 2:13
And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy Elohim to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
As we examine the Torah portion this week, we see in Leviticus 2:13 that “every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt.”
Salt is used to flavoring and preserving food. We see in the scriptures that salt is a very important item. It was used in the meat offerings. As a matter of fact, later in that scripture it says “And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy Elohim to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.”
In the New Testament it was also prominent. Messiah said we are the salt of the earth.
Matthew 5:13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
What is this saying? We should never lose our desire to share the Word with the lost. We should always want to share what Yahwah has done for us.
The scriptures also point out that we need to be careful how we speak. The words that come out of our mouth should be tender and caring not harsh.
Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
