THE ADVENT TRUTH.

Many people read 2 Thessalonians 2, and assume the restrainer must be the Holy Spirit — and therefore the church must disappear before the Antichrist rises. But look carefully at the text… Paul never says the Spirit leaves the earth. In fact, he says the mystery of iniquity was already at work in his day (v.7). Something was simply holding it back until it was “taken out of the way.”

In the first fulfillment, that restraining power was Pagan Rome
As long as the emperors ruled, no bishop in Rome could become the global religious authority. But once that empire collapsed, the papal system rose to dominance — just as prophecy declared.

So what does that mean for the end-time fulfillment?

The restrainer today isn’t the Holy Spirit — it’s religious liberty
Specifically, America’s Protestant Constitution has been the greatest barrier preventing the Papacy from enforcing global worship. The First Amendment has restrained church-state unity for over 200 years. Revelation 13 says that will change:

The earth-beast (U.S.) will speak like a dragon and cause worship of the first beast. (Rev. 13:11-12)

That means the removal of restraint happens when freedom falls — not when the Spirit leaves.

And here’s the biggest biblical issue with the pre-trib view:

If the Holy Spirit leaves earth, no one can be saved
But Revelation shows…

“A great multitude… came out of great tribulation.” — Rev. 7:14
God’s servants are sealed during that time — Rev. 7:3
The gospel is still being preached — Rev. 14:6

You cannot seal, convict, transform, or save anyone without the Spirit (John 16:8; Titus 3:5). Jesus promised:

“He will abide with you forever.” — John 14:16
“I do not ask that You take them out of the world.” — John 17:15

So what actually happens?

The Holy Spirit doesn’t leave — the freedom to resist the beast leaves
That is the final test. That is the line in the sand. And God’s people don’t escape it… they overcome in it (Rev. 12:11).

The Bible teaches endurance.
God will never abandon His people in the most important hour of earth’s history.
