A NUGGET OF TRUTH.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS EXISTED BEFORE MT SINAI.
Many believe the law was first given at Sinai. But consider this: Adam and Eve sinned long before Sinai existed. How could they transgress the law if it didn’t exist?
The truth is, sin is the transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4), and His moral law has always existed. It was written not just on tablets, but on the hearts of humanity, clearly showing right from wrong.
As Paul reminds us:
"Sin is not imputed when there is no law." (Romans 5:13) — yet Adam and Eve’s rebellion proves that God’s law is eternal, and His standards are timeless.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS BEFORE SINAI
No Other Gods – Job 31:28: “This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.”
Do Not Make Idols – Genesis 35:2: “Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments.”
Do Not Profane God’s Name / Do Not Commit Immorality – Leviticus 18:21, 27: “Nor shall you profane the name of your God... for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled.”
Keep the Sabbath Holy – Genesis 2:3: “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
Honor Your Parents – Genesis 28:7: “And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother.”
Do Not Murder – Genesis 4:10-11: “And he said, What hast thou done, the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth.”
Do Not Commit Adultery – Genesis 39:7-9: “His master's wife cast longing eyes on Joseph, and she said, Lie with me. But he refused... How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”
Do Not Steal – Genesis 44:8-9: “How then should we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold? With whomever of your servants it is found, both let him die...”
Do Not Bear False Witness – Genesis 3:13-14: “And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed.”
Do Not Covet – Genesis 3:6: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat.”
Let this truth sink in: the law did not begin at Sinai — it existed from creation, and sin existed the moment it was broken.
