Discerning God’s Will
Every day, people are faced with life-changing decisions, and many ask the question, “How can I know if I’m making the right choices? Some want answers so desperately they seek out their horoscopes, while others pay psychics to tell them what to do. But you can look to the stars for answers, or you can ask the Maker of the stars! Christians know that the only way to make the “right choice” comes from following God’s advice. But even Christians sometimes struggle with discerning God’s voice and often find themselves asking questions such as: “How can I be certain it is God leading and not my own selfish desires?” “Is it even possible to know for sure that it’s God’s voice, and not man’s or Satan’s?” And the answer is “yes”! When you read the Bible, you will find that there are many men and women who knew God’s voice, such as Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Joseph, Esther, and the list goes on and on. The Bible makes it very clear in John 10:27, where we’re told, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." God gives us further reassurance in Psalm 37:23 (NLT), "The steps of a good person are ordered by the Lord.” God will lead and guide our every step, and even when we make mistakes - if we repent, He will forgive us and give us a second chance. However, to discern God’s will for your life, you must have a close relationship with your Heavenly Father, which happens as a result of an active prayer life. Real dialog with God - heart to heart . . . all throughout your day! The more time you spend in prayer, the closer you will be to God - and the more you will “hear and know” His voice.” Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Jeremiah 29:12-13, Proverbs 16:3
