**PROPHETIC CONFRONTATION: THE LOWEST PLACE IS THE HIGHEST CALLING**
** THE COST OF THE TOWEL: GETTING OFF YOUR PEDESTAL. ARE YOU ACTUALLY WILLING TO WASH THE FEET OF THE BROTHER WHO BETRAYED YOU? **
The Holy Ghost is nauseated by our obsession with platforms, titles, "destiny," and microphones, while the basin of water sits untouched in the corner.
We have a generation of believers clamoring for a **MANTLE**, but they are terrified of a **TOWEL.**
You want the fire of Elijah? You want the shadow of Peter? You want the revelation of Paul?
**THEN YOU MUST HAVE THE HUMILITY OF JESUS.**
And let me tell you—humility is not a posture you take during worship. Humility is the violent death of your dignity.
**HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD:**
**If you are too big to serve, you are too small to lead.**
If you cannot wash the dirt off the feet of your enemy, you have no business carrying the Glory of God.
### 1. THE EXPOSITORY REALITY: THE THEOLOGY OF THE STRIPTEASE
Let’s look at the upper room in **John 13**. The disciples are arguing about who is the greatest (**Luke 22:24**). They are posturing. They are politicking.
And what does the King of Glory do?
**John 13:4**: *"He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself."*
Do you understand the violence of this act?
Jesus **STRIPPED** Himself of His status. He took off the seamless robe of a Rabbi and put on the loincloth of a slave.
**Philippians 2:7**: *"But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant..."*
**"NO REPUTATION."**
The modern church is obsessed with reputation management. We curate our image. We defend our "brand."
Jesus killed His brand to serve His friends.
**The Towel costs you your dignity.** You cannot look "anointed" and "regal" while you are on your knees scrubbing filth. You have to choose: Do you want to look like a King, or do you want to act like the Savior?
### 2. THE JUDAS TEST: THE ULTIMATE OFFENSE
Here is the razor’s edge of this message.
It’s easy to wash Peter’s feet; you know he’s going to preach at Pentecost.
It’s easy to wash John’s feet; he loves you.
**BUT JESUS WASHED JUDAS.**
**John 13:11**: *"For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean."*
Jesus KNEW. He knew Judas had already made the deal. He knew the silver was likely in his pocket. He knew that in a few hours, those very feet would lead a Roman cohort to arrest Him.
**AND HE WASHED THEM ANYWAY.**
He held the heel that would be lifted against Him (**Psalm 41:9**).
He cleaned the dirt off the man who was about to sell Him for the price of a slave.
**THIS IS THE COST OF THE TOWEL.**
You say you want to be like Jesus?
* Are you willing to serve the person who is gossiping about you right now?
* Are you willing to bless the leader who overlooked you?
* Are you willing to wash the feet of the spouse who walked out on you?
* Are you willing to serve the Judas who is eating at your table while plotting your downfall?
**If you only serve those who honor you, that is not ministry—THAT IS BARTER.**
"I serve you, you praise me." That is a transaction.
**Kingdom Service is washing the feet of a traitor and expecting nothing but the Cross in return.**
### 3. THE PEDESTAL IS A PRISON
Why do we refuse the towel? Because we are addicted to the **PEDESTAL.**
We want to be seen. We want to be "The Man of God" or "The Woman of God."
**Proverbs 16:18**: *"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."*
The pedestal is a trap. It isolates you. It makes you untouchable, unteachable, and eventually, unbearable.
**God is in the business of kicking over pedestals.**
He is looking for a people who are intimately acquainted with the floor.
**Matthew 20:26-28**: *"But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister... Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."*
**The way up is down.**
If you want to ascend the mountain of God, you must descend into the valley of service.
### 4. THE PROPHETIC REBUKE: THE UNTOUCHABLE GENERATION
I see a church full of people who want the **POWER** of the Upper Room (Acts 2) but refuse the **POSTURE** of the Upper Room (John 13).
You cannot have the Fire without the Water.
You cannot have the Tongues of Flame without the Basin of Dirt.
God is withholding the greater glory because we are too proud to handle it. If He poured out His power on us now, our egos would explode.
**He is waiting for us to pick up the towel.**
### THE ALTAR CALL: GET LOW
I am calling for a demotion. I am calling for you to resign from the position of "Important Person" and re-apply for the position of "Bondservant."
**ARE YOU READY TO WASH THE FEET OF YOUR ENEMIES?**
** YOUR ACTION PLAN:**
1. **IDENTIFY YOUR JUDAS:** Who hurt you? Who betrayed you? Who annoys you? That is your assignment.
2. **KILL THE PRIDE:** Repent for thinking you are too good to serve them. Repent for waiting for *them* to apologize to *you*.
3. **PICK UP THE TOWEL:** Find a way to serve them. Pray for them. Speak well of them behind their back. Meet a practical need. **DO IT IN SECRET.**
4. **STAY LOW:** When you feel the urge to defend your reputation, REMEMBER THE BASIN. Let God defend you. You just wash feet.
** DECLARE IT:**
Type **"I CHOOSE THE TOWEL"** in the comments.
** SHARE THIS REBUKE.** The church is full of celebrities; we need servants.
**TAG A LEADER** who models humility.
*If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.* (**John 13:14**)
