**PROPHETIC WARNING: GOD IS JEALOUS FOR YOUR AFFECTION**
** THE IDOLATRY OF THE HOME: CONFRONTING THE UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTH OF CHRIST'S DEMAND: IF YOU LOVE YOUR SPOUSE OR CHILDREN MORE THAN HIM, YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF HIM **
I am writing this with a Spirit of Trembling. The Holy Ghost has laid a burden on my heart to speak to the "Family-First" idolaters in the Body of Christ.
We have elevated the nuclear family to the status of the Trinity. We have made our spouses our Messiahs and our children our Little Lords. We have baptized our emotional codependency and called it "Biblical Stewardship."
**HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD:**
**God is not a Home-Builder for your kingdom; He is a King who demands a Throne.**
If your family is the center of your universe, **YOU ARE IN IDOLATRY.**
If you will disobey God to please your wife, or compromise truth to keep peace with your husband, or neglect the mission field to hover over your children like a helicopter—**YOU ARE NOT WORTHY OF HIM.**
This is hard. This is offensive. But this is the GOSPEL.
### 1. THE EXPOSITORY REALITY: THE SWORD OF DIVISION
**Matthew 10:37**: *"He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."*
Jesus did not say "love them less than you love your neighbor." He said love them less than **HIM.**
The Greek word for "more than" is *hyper.* It means "above, beyond, exceedingly."
If your affection for your family *exceeds* your obedience to Christ, you are disqualified.
**Luke 14:26** (The Shocking Verse): *"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."*
**HATE?**
Jesus uses hyperbole to make a point: **Your love for God must be so blindingly intense that your love for your family looks like HATE in comparison.**
It means when there is a conflict between God's Will and Family's Will—**GOD WINS EVERY TIME.**
### 2. THE DANGER OF THE "SPOUSE-IDOL"
Marriage is a holy covenant, but it is not the *highest* covenant. Your covenant with God is ETERNAL; your marriage is "until death do us part."
When you prioritize your spouse's opinion over God's Word, you have made them an idol.
**Example: Adam and Eve.**
Adam wasn't deceived by the serpent; he chose to sin because he listened to his wife instead of God (**Genesis 3:17**).
*"Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife..."*
If your husband asks you to stop tithing, and you obey him over God—**IDOLATRY.**
If your wife asks you to stop serving in ministry because "we need more family time" (when God called you to serve)—**IDOLATRY.**
You are making peace with a human at the expense of war with God.
### 3. THE DANGER OF THE "CHILD-IDOL"
We have a generation of parents who worship their children.
You skip church for soccer practice.
You spend thousands on their hobbies but pennies on missions.
You shelter them from the "radical" demands of the Gospel because you want them to be "safe and successful."
**Eli the Priest** honored his sons above God (**1 Samuel 2:29**). He let them sin and did not restrain them.
**THE RESULT?** God killed both sons in one day and ended Eli's lineage.
Your children are not yours; they are arrows in the hand of a warrior (**Psalm 127:4**). Arrows are meant to be **SHOT** into the battle, not kept in the quiver for decoration!
If you love your children more than God, you will raise them to be citizens of earth, not soldiers of Heaven. You will teach them to seek comfort, not the Cross.
**YOU ARE LOVING THEM INTO HELL.**
### 4. THE PROPHETIC REBUKE: THE ORDER OF AFFECTION
God is a Jealous God (**Exodus 34:14**). He will not share His glory with your spouse or your kids.
If you put your family on the altar where God belongs, **HE WILL BURN THE ALTAR.**
He will allow trouble in your marriage. He will allow rebellion in your children. Why? To wake you up! To show you that **ONLY HE** can sustain your home.
When you put God FIRST:
* You love your spouse *better* because you love them out of God's overflow.
* You raise your children *better* because you are training them for eternity.
* Your home becomes a missional outpost, not a bunker of selfishness.
**Seek ye FIRST the Kingdom of God... and all these things (including happy families) shall be added unto you.** (**Matthew 6:33**)
### THE ALTAR CALL: REORDER THE HOUSE
I am calling for a realignment of the heart. I am calling for parents and spouses to take their family off the throne and put them on the altar.
**ARE YOU WILLING TO LET GOD BE THE HEAD OF YOUR HOUSE?**
** YOUR ACTION PLAN:**
1. **THE CONFESSION:** Ask God: *"Have I made my family an idol?"* If the answer is yes, repent. *"Lord, I have loved Your gifts more than the Giver."*
2. **THE REALIGNMENT:** If you have been compromising your obedience to please your family, STOP. Have the hard conversation. *"Honey, I love you, but I must obey God first."*
3. **THE DEDICATION:** Give your children back to God. Pray: *"Lord, they are Yours. Send them to the nations. Use them for Your glory. I release my hold on their future."*
** DECLARE IT:**
Type **"GOD FIRST, FAMILY SECOND"** in the comments.
