“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 ESV
Fear is an emotion every single human has experienced from the beginning of time. In more primitive times, tribes had to be cautious about predators, and in our times, there are many things that threaten our well-being. We experience job loss, or perhaps we venture to new places filled with strangers. We also face more serious situations, such as the death of a parent or a violent confrontation. All of these things fill us with dread.
We experience fear when we’re faced with something outside of our control, so it’s human and natural to want every aspect of our lives to be completely under our control. There is no fault in this since we were created to have dominion over nature. However, inevitably, we will all face these problems.
When they happen, if we have no hope, they can be detrimental to us. We may experience a feeling of powerlessness or loneliness. Many people have succumbed to these emotions—and not for the better.
However, we aren’t stuck there because God the Ruler, Creator, and Sustainer of all that is, has promised not to leave us in despair. He promised to strengthen us all, help us, and keep us secure. We may not be able to see Him or hear Him audibly, but His preserved Word gives us what we need. In those moments when we read about His all-encompassing knowledge and goodness, we know we will be ready and confident to persevere, no matter the situation. We can be sure that in any circumstance, what He has planned for us will come to pass.
This does not ensure that everything will be fixed in this life. But even in death, we have victory because Heaven will be the prize for those who keep trusting His promises.
